2010 Lexus HS 250h

Lexus unveiled today at the Detroit Auto Show world’s first ever dedicated luxury hybrid vehicle: the HS 250h, the fourth hybrid and the most fuel-efficient vehicle in its lineup. Sales will begin later in the summer.

The HS 250s is powered by Lexus’ first four-cylinder gas engine: the 2.4-liter Atkinson-cycle that develops 187 hp. The highly efficient Atkinson-cycle engine, made possible by the Variable Valve Timing with intelligence (VVT-i) system, allows the expansion/power stroke to be longer than the compression stroke so that combustion energy can be more effectively used for production of engine power.
The car is being offered with proactive adoption of plant-based, carbon-neutral “Ecological Plastics” or (bio-plastics) used in the cowl-side trim, door scuff plate, tool box area, floor-finish plate, seat cushions, and the package tray behind the rear seats.

Among the technologies used by the HS 250h are: standard leather-trim seats, a moonroof, Lexus premium audio systems, and a new standard multi-media package that includes Bluetooth® technology, integrated satellite radio (subscription required), voice recognition, and USB iPod connectivity controlled via steering-wheel controls or a display screen.

2009 Audi Sportback Concept

Audi debuted Sportback concept at the North American International Auto Show, but we all know better. It’s no great secret that Detroit is where Audi was choosing to show the first preview of the Audi A7. The sedan-in-a-coupe-body is exactly what we’d expect from the four-ringed brand: sleek, big schnoz and a little different than everything else out there.

There is also some pretty significant technology behind the big grille. This concept is powered by a 3.0-liter V6 TDI clean diesel engine that Audi says almost completely eliminates nitrogen oxides. This engine already meets the emissions standards of all 50 states and the European EU6 standard scheduled to take effect in 2014. The engine delivers 225 hp and 405 lb. ft. of torque.

Audi claims the coupe will accelerate from 0 – 100 km/h (62.14 mph) in less than seven seconds and reach a top speed of 245 km/h (152.24 mph). The Audi Sportback concept’s average fuel economy is 39.87 mpg, and its CO2 emissions no more than 251.06 g/mile. No bad for a big car. The Sportback measures in at 16.24 ft long and 6.33 ft wide, but its only a low-slung 4.59 ft tall.

2010 Lincoln MKT

The 2010 Lincoln MKT made its world debut at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. This will be the sixth model in Lincoln’s lineup, and slot between the MKX and the Navigator.

The Ford Flex cousin will be offered with a choice of two engines: a 3.7-liter V6 that delivers 268 hp at 6,500 RPM and 267 ft.-lb. of torque at 4,250 RPM; and a 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged EcoBoost V-6 that delivers 355 hp at 5,700 RPM and 350 ft.-lb. of torque at 3,500 RPM. The upgraded EcoBoost engine should provide similar fuel economy as the standard (non-turbo) 3.7-liter engine. Both engines are mated to a six-speed SelectShift automatic transmission. The 3.5 liter version is being offered standard with AWD system, while for the 3.7 version the AWD is optional.

The MKT uses a lot of design touches that have become known throughout the Lincoln family such as the split waterfall grille, single piece rear light, and large greenhouse area. Much of the curves in the design look like they came from the same pen that gave us the surprisingly handsome MKS we had in our fleet.

2010 Fisker Karma

Welcome to the Chevrolet Volt on steroids. It was only last year that Fisker first showed off its concept for the Karma, and now its back in Detroit to show off its production form.

Appearing in almost the same clothes as last year, the production Karma is being marketed as an eco-friendly luxury sedan. It’s a plug-in hybrid that uses a lithium-ion battery pack to power two 200+ hp electric motors for about 50 miles. Once the juice runs out of the batteries, a GM-sourced 2.0-liter gas engine making 260 hp generates the electricity needed to power the sedan. Fisker says the Karma makes the 0 to 60 mph sprint in less than 6 seconds and can hit a top speed of more than 125 mph.

The hybrid Karma has the height of a Porsche 911, length of a Mercedes Benz CLS and the width of a BMW 7-Series. Those may be sexy benchmarks but odd dimensions. Either way, it seems to work on this car because Fisker gave the Karma a distinctively sleek, wind-cheating body. The whole package is one of the most aggressive-looking electric vehicles out there. This is undoubtedly helped but the short height of the car combined with its 22-inch wheels.
Fisker says its already received 1000 orders for the new Karma. Deliveries will begin in the fourth quarter of 2009. Price will start from $87,900.

2010 Jaguar XFR and XF - UK pricing announced

Jaguar announced UK pricing for the new 2010 5.0-liter V8 engine in the XF and XFR. The 510 hp supercharged XFR is priced at £59,900, and the normally aspirate V8 version is priced at £49,900. At direct current rates that translates to about $83,000 and $70,000 respectively.
We don’t expect the U.S pricing to follow the exchange rates. The XFR is priced about £6,000 more than the BMW M5 in the UK. Using the Bimmer’s $85,500 base price, were using the rates to peg the XFR closer to $77,200 or about $13,000 more then the 4.2-liter supercharged V8 car that currently tops the XF line in the U.S.

2011 Mercedes CLS spied again

Its only been a week since we’ve seen a spy shot of the next Mercedes CLS, but its back again. This time the body cladding is doing a good job to hide the sedan/coupe because this one almost looks like a Toyota Camry.
This example was caught performing cold weather testing in Sweden. The 2011 CLS should be positioned between the E and S-Class in the Mercedes lineup. Because the current CLS is based on the E-Class, it’s likely that the next generation will be using a stretched form of the E-Class chassis. Engines choices could range internationally from a turbo four-cylinder and top out with a V8 in the AMG model. Mercedes may also offer the engine from the S400 BlueHybrid in the CLS.

2009 BMW 730Ld

BMW UK added a new model to the 7-series line-up: the 730Ld, the long-wheelbase version of the 730d that adds 14cms of legroom for rear seat passengers. The prices will start from £56,790.

The new BMW 730Ld is powered by an all-aluminium 2,993cc straight-six cylinder diesel engine that produces 245hp at 4,000rpm. A peak torque figure of 540Nm is attained from 1,750rpm through to 3,000rpm and this results in a zero to 62mph time of 7.3 seconds and a 153mph top speed. Its 194g/km emission figure is class-leading for conventionally powered luxury cars, as is its 38.7mpg combined consumption figure. The BMW 730Ld comes with a six-speed automatic gearbox as standard.

2009 Maybach Landaulet on eBay for $2.2M

Hopefully the downturn in the economy hasen’t forced you to fire your chauffeur because a back-seat only convertible Maybach 62 Landaulet is now up for sale.
When it was new last fall, the Maybach Landaulet carried a price tag of €900,000 (or $1.35 million at the time). Now this exclusive open-top luxury saloon is for sale on eBay as a used car for $2,200,000. Who knew adding 95 miles to the odometer could make a car gain almost $1 million in value.
So sell a small country or ask daddy for next month’s allowance in advance. Just remember, while you bask in the glow of the January sun, make sure Jeeves doesn’t have too much fun with the Landaulet’s 612 hp V12 engine

Aston Martin Rapide production version images leaked

AutoCar seems to have the jump on everyone, and has revealed today the first “official” images of the production version of the Aston Martin Rapide. The look of the car is a little toned down from the concept car, but still carries a lot of the spirit, and is definitely unmistakably Aston.
The super-sedan will use its DB9 sibling for much of its mechanics. The Rapide will use a stretched version of the DB9’s platform and also its utilize the 6.0-liter V12 making between 480 - 500 hp. AutoCar puts the price at £140,000 (about $200,000 at direct current rates), which if true, puts the Rapide between the DB9 and the DBS in Aston’s lineup.

2010 Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost - new info on the RR4

We know Rolls-Royce is making a smaller car, but now it’s rumored that Rolls will using it to resurrect a historic name. The car, which we have until now known as the RR4, is rumored to go to production with the name Silver Ghost.
This is significant because the original Silver Ghost was the first Rolls-Royce to really catch on with the public. It was the car that established Rollers as a world standard by the time production ended in 1926. The new Silver Ghost will likely take up a different place in Rolls-Royce’s lineup. There were less than 8,000 of the original cars produced over a twenty-year period, and the new Ghost will be the baby Roller that will be used as the mass-market car (if Rolls-Royce can make such a thing, especially at the expected $250,000 price tag.)
The 2010 Silver Ghost should carry many of Rolls’ current design cues, including suicide doors. Under the skin the car will show more of the roots from its corporate parent BMW with elements like iDrive and possibly the twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 from the next generation M-Series cars.

Sleek and rakish, yet instantly recognisable, the Phantom Drophead Coupé’s new face embodies its modern, dynamic spirit while retaining the confidence

Rolls-Royce Motor Cars is sponsoring the week-long opening programme of events at Pallant House Gallery, Chichester as a new £8.6 million contemporary wing is unveiled today. The gallery houses one of the most important collections of modern British art in the country. The new wing contains nine galleries which will showcase works by British artists including Peter Blake, Patrick Caulfield, Lucian Freud and Graham Sutherland.
Ian Robertson, Chairman and Chief Executive of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars said, “It is a pleasure for Rolls-Royce to support this important opening. The local community can be very proud of the outstanding collection of British modern art on display at the gallery, which will become an integral part of the rich cultural life in this part of the world.?
The Rolls-Royce Phantom is hand built at the award-winning Rolls-Royce manufacturing plant and head office (designed by top British Architect Sir Nicholas Grimshaw) at Goodwood, Chichester.

Rolls-Royce new face

Sleek and rakish, yet instantly recognisable, the Phantom Drophead Coupé’s new face embodies its modern, dynamic spirit while retaining the confidence and grandeur that has characterisedRolls-Royce for more than a century.
Smaller and reclined at a more streamlined angle than that of the Phantom, the Phantom Drophead Coupé’s grille is made entirely from stainless steel: the central element of which is polished, while the outer shell is brushed to match that of the bonnet, windscreen surround and other exterior brightwork.
The new grille design also conceals an ingenious hinged mount, which allows the base of the grille to move in the event of a low speed impact, absorbing parking knocks that would otherwise result in damage.
Another striking feature of the Phantom Drophead Coupé’s face are its headlights. Incorporating LED technology, these slim line sidelights add drama and expression to the Drophead Coupé’s face.

Acura debuted the DN-X concept vehicle in 2002 at the New York International Auto Show. Infused with the latest technology, the DN-X puts an exclamation point on the term sports sedan by combining the style, handling and exhilarating performance of a high-powered sports car with the roominess and functionality of a luxury sedan.
"Don’t let the four doors fool you, the DN-X concept is all sports car," said Tom Elliott, executive vice president of American Honda Motor Co., Inc. "Looking into the future, our designers created the perfect solution for those that want a sports car but also need to carry passengers."The company’s racing heritage and legendary engine technology is evident in the DN-X. The mid-engine, all-wheel-drive DN-X concept is equipped with a unique 400 horsepower hybrid powertrain that combines a high-output, 3.5-liter, DOHC, i-VTEC V-6 engine powering the rear wheels and an advanced electric Integrated Motor Assist (IMA) system that provides additional power to all four wheels. Not only does this system provide outstanding performance, but also achieves an environmentally conscious 42 miles to the gallon.

During acceleration, the IMA system contributes supplemental torque, resulting in both lower fuel consumption and powerful acceleration. The IMA’s ultracapacitor is recharged by regenerative braking that takes energy from forward momentum and captures it during braking. This system makes an external electric power supply unnecessary.

Palm Beach Supercar Weekend

Palm Beach, Florida is an unfair place. It may not have the class of Monaco or the money of Dubai, but a Bentley is as disposable here as a BMW 3-Series. So its only fitting that a many of the rarest supercars (some whose production numbers can be counted on one hand) would gather here last weekend for a showcase. Supercar Weekend is a gratuitous display of wealth, power and speed; in other words, everything we secretly want.
One of the most notable parts of the weekend was Jim Glickenhaus (recipiant of the first Alfa Romeo 8C in the U.S.) brought his one of a kind 1967 Ferrari Dino Competizione and Ferrari P4/5. Click the picture gallery for more photos.Palm Beach Supercar Weekend Picture Gallery

SSC Ultimate Aero EV - 200 miles with 10 minutes recharging!?

We like stuff that comes from Shelby SuperCars (SSC) because its fast. The Ultimate Aero currently holds the record for world’s fastest production car at 256 mph, and the 2009 car is promised to be even faster. So when SSC announced it will build the world’s fastest electric car last summer, we thought we might have a reason to start getting excited about EV cars (no offense Tesla).
SSC decided to release a few details about its progress on the electric supercar, and its having us check the calendar to make sure it isn’t April Fool’s Day. For starters, SSC is keeping with its basic principle and keeping the electric car’s charge time fast; a hard to believe ten minutes.
In a sixth of an hour, SSC says its Nanotechnology Rechargeable Lithium Battery pack can be charged up for a 200 mile run. These figures are not from hooking up the car directly to the local nuclear power plant, but just by using the same household plug that powers an alarm clock. The reason why his is a little questionable is because the engineering team at SSC has accomplished what a lot of bigger companies have not been able to do yet. For example Chevrolet’s Volt will need an eight hour charge on a 110v plug to go 40 miles.
If SSC really has created a system the will charge an EV car’s batteries in the same time it takes to fill up with fuel, and it fits in a performance car, then the electric car revolution may really be here. Now all we have to do is keep our homes from burning down when the Ultimate Aero EV pulls the current (presumably an ungodly amount) to get its quick charge.

Lamborghini Reventon for sale in Silicon Valley

It’s hard to sell a used car these days, even if it’s only gone 73 miles. It probably doesn’t help that this Lamborghini Reventon cost about $1.5 million when new. So how should a Silicon Valley area dealer try to move its off the used car lot? Why not make it sound more rare.
For staters the car is described as one of ten imported to the U.S., but production numbers are double that. Also the is listed as having its power increased to 660 hp, but all Reventons have 660 hp. The increase is reffering to the 20 hp boost over the Lamborghini Murcielago LP640 from which the Reventon is heavily based.
C’mon guys, you don’t need to try to drum up sales by trying to make your Reventon special. One of twenty made, 0 to 60 in 3.3 seconds and a top speed of 211 mph should be good enough for any Google executive to take notice.

BMW Z10 ED green supercar coming in 2011

We know BMW is looking for a place to showcase its eco-friendly technology called EfficientDynamics. Now it looks like BMW’s Technik skunkworks (these are the same people who made the Z1 and Z8) will be bypassing the concept car and going right into production with a mean green machine.
Autocar is reporting that this will be a two-seat model called Z10 ED (Efficient Dynamics) that will be launched in 2011. It will be built in limited numbers, and the £80,000 (about $115,00 at the current rates) price tag should keep the car exclusive just like other BMW small batch offerings.
BMW is rumored to be developing a new high-pressure turbocharged direct-injection straight six cylinder engine to power the car. "The idea is to bring all the very latest technology together in a way that will allow a high level of performance without overburdening the environment in a way that the current crop of supercars do," said an insider privy to BMW’s plans. "There is no reason why they need to be mutually exclusive when you consider the sort of technology that exists today. It is just a matter of applying it correctly."
Back in November we heard a similar situation that pegged the M1 Hommage concept to be BMW’s green supercar, but the Z10 ED name may suggest it will take its design cues from the 2007 concept car. No matter the design, the car should weight in around a light 3000 lbs mainly because of a simple carbon fiber body panels, integrated door frames and sill panels.

McLaren P11 Prototype testing on snow

After the first spy shot of the McLaren P11, the future supercar has been caught again. This time the P11 prototype was caught doing some cold weather testing in Sweden.
The P11 will go into production in 2010 and will compete with models like Ferrari F430. Rumors suggest the car will be powered by a 6.2-liter V8 engine that will deliver at least 500bhp. The body and chassis will both be made of lightweight carbon composites, so it should tip the scales at under 2500 lbs. The 0 to 60 mph sprint will be made in around 4 second and top speed should be around 200mph.

Aston Martin One-77 not really sold out

Rumors of its unavailability have been greatly exaggerated.
Not long after Aston Martin announced the very limited production supercar called One-77, we got word that there were 100 orders for the car limited to 77 units. Yeah, well um, that’s not so much true (c’mon we’re not exact CNN here people.) Aston actually got 100 people who expressed interest in the car, but that doesn’t equal sales (just because you can write a letter to Danica Patrick, doesn’t mean she’ll date you.) So there are still a few cars left, and we’re still single.
We expect the One-77 to be powered by a 7.0-liter V12 engine that delivers over 700 hp and over 550 lb-ft. of torque. The 0 to 60 mph sprint will be made in 3.5 seconds, while top speed should go up to 200 mph. The full price of the car is about £1 million. Thanks to current rates in the dollar’s favor, it will make the car a steal at around $1.4 million.
So those select few who still think a few million dollars is considered “mad money”, Aston Martin will gladly take your £200,000 towards a new One-77. Don’t try that with Danica, she may beat you like you blocked her in pit lane.

Alpina will unveil B6 GT3 in Geneva

Last week we found out that the Alpina B7 will make its world debut in Geneva. It seems the BMW tuner will use the show to also reveal the B6 GT3 - its newest motorsports challenger.
Alpina has been away from motor racing for about twenty years, but now has decided its time to get back on the track. It looks like Alpina starts with its B6 S Coupe as the base for the B6 GT3. Alpina is supercharging 4.4-liter to deliver 530hp (390kW) and a peak torque of 535 lb-ft. The car then get a body kit and large rear wing to help with aerodynamics. We expect to know more about this track car when we see it in March at Geneva

2010 Ford Fusion qualifies for the highest available tax credit

The highest available U.S. tax credit to date now belongs to Ford. Consumers who purchase a 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid or 2010 Mercury Milan Hybrid will be eligible to receive a $3400 federal tax credit. Ford’s sedans get 41 mpg in the city and 36 mpg on the highway, which Ford claims is 8 mpg more than the Toyota Camry Hybrid.
In order to qualify for the full amount you must purchase a Fusion Hybrid before April 1, 2009. After that date customers who purchase a hybrid will only be able to claim a partial tax credit. This is because Ford reached a 60,000 vehicle threshold in the 4th quarter of 2008. Now the tax credit amounts are reduced by 50 percent beginning in the second quarter of 2009 and by an additional 25 percent beginning in the fourth quarter of 2009. No tax credit amount is available for hybrids after March 31, 2010.

Mini Crossover production version to debut in Frankfurt

It may be an oxymoron, but that won’t stop the Mini SUV from hitting the road. We first saw the Crossover Concept last September at the Paris Auto Show, now the production version should make its debut one year later Frankfurt Motor Show (Paris and Frankfurt alternate years for holding a show in September.)
The production crossover will get the same 1.6-liter engine as the rest of the mini line up, and the horsepower will differ between the Cooper and Copper S models. Mini said there are no plans for a John Cooper Works edition, but if more power is needed, a very JCW-like twin-turbocharged version of the Mini engine may become available.
This Mini will start out with front-wheel drive, but will soon offer a version of corporate parent BMW’s X-Drive four-wheel drive system. The crossover wants to be a capable off roader, which means the transmission may be geared for low range capabilities. This may work with the diesel engine available in the Europe, but it could leave the gas-only U.S. version feeling overworked.

Aston Martin DBS Volante coming to Geneva

We knew that Aston Martin was working on a topless version of the DBS (it even asked for suggestions for a name). Now rumors are going around that the cars is almost complete, and we’ll see it for the first time at the Geneva Motor Show in March.
Aside from the fabric roof, the Aston Martin DBS Volante will be identical to its coupe brother. It will be powered by the same 6.0-liter V12 engine that delivers 510bhp at 6500rpm and a peak torque of 420 lb.ft at 5750rpm. The coupe version accelerates from 0 to 62 mph in 4.3 seconds and can hit a top speed of 191 mph, so we expect similar figures from the topless version.

Just remember, while you bask in the glow of the January sun, make sure Jeeves doesn’t have too much fun with the Landaulet’s 612 hp V12 engine.

Cadillac Presidential Limousine

Cadillac has a very long history in delivering presidential limousine. It all started back in 1938 with the "Queen Mary" and "Queen Elizabeth" Cadillac Convertible. And in 2009 the company revealed the new presidential limousine for the president Barack Obama.

Inside and out, the Cadillac Presidential Limousine includes many of the brand’s signature design elements. Assertive, modern and elegant, the front of the car includes the intricate, dual-textured grille made famous by Cadillac’s most popular current models, the CTS sport sedan and Escalade. Vertical design elements, such as the car’s front and rear lighting, mirror those used on production models.

The car was designed, developed and tested by specialists who adhered to an extensive set of specifications. It was subjected to an extreme testing regimen to ensure performance that achieves precise functional requirements. In doing so, security provisions were undertaken at all times during development to ensure the car’s functional capabilities are preserved and confidential.

Balancing power and efficiency
Fuel-efficiency also comes standard on the Lincoln MKT – and customers have a choice of two powerful yet practical V-6 engines.A 3.7-liter, 24-valve variation of the award-winning Duratec engine family is standard. Delivering an expected 268 horsepower at 6,500 RPM and 267 ft.-lb. of torque at 4,250 RPM, this engine has been tuned to provide brisk acceleration and smooth power delivery.Significant engineering and development time were invested in the 3.7-liter Duratec V-6 to deliver best-in-class noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) control. Lincoln MKT was benchmarked for interior quietness to allow normal conversation within the vehicle, using an articulation index.A two-speed fuel pump and Aggressive Deceleration Fuel Shut-Off (ADFSO), combined with optimized transmission and final drive gearing, are designed to allow this engine to deliver segment-leading fuel economy for Lincoln MKT.For even more performance driving feel, Lincoln MKT also offers a 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged EcoBoost V-6. This engine provides the power of a normally-aspirated V-8 with V-6 fuel economy. This advanced engine delivers a class-leading estimated 355 horsepower at 5,700 RPM, while generating 350 ft.-lb. of torque at 3,500 RPM.EcoBoost is a global Ford strategy to deliver the power that customers want, combined with the fuel economy that they need. Combining gasoline direct injection with twin turbochargers and a smaller-displacement engine, EcoBoost can match the power output of larger, naturally aspirated engines while yielding torque and fuel economy gains.Pressurized direct injection helps eliminate the “turbo lag” associated with earlier turbocharged engines. And even with the additional horsepower, fuel economy is optimized by an increased compression ratio, enabled by air-charged cooling and sophisticated knock controls.Lincoln MKT is equipped with a six-speed SelectShift® automatic transmission. This advanced gearbox offers the driver a choice between fully automatic operation and manual control. In addition, paddle shifters are integrated into the steering wheel spokes. Intuitive to operate, a squeeze back on either paddle will deliver an upshift, while a gentle push forward on either paddle will induce a “matched-rev” downshift. This capability makes the Lincoln MKT driving experience sporty, yet smooth. Unlike other competitive transmissions, SelectShift won’t “second guess” the driver with an override shift. With SelectShift, manual control is truly manually controlled.All-wheel-drive is optional in the Lincoln MKT with the standard 3.7-liter V-6. The AWD option enhances the vehicle’s capability in a variety of weather conditions. The sophisticated AWD system is fully automatic, using an advanced array of internal electro-mechanical clutches to efficiently distribute torque between front and rear wheels as needed. AWD is standard in the Lincoln MKT with the EcoBoost 3.5-liter V-6.
Quiet, confident motoring
“The Lincoln MKT strikes the optimum balance between capable and driver-engaging handling, while simultaneously delivering a smooth quiet ride in all three rows,” said Chief Engineer Ron Heiser. “It combines a luxury touring experience with an agile ride and available Class III towing strength, as well.”Key elements of Lincoln MKT suspension development and tuning included minimizing front end lift on acceleration, offering stable and engaging steering and handling characteristics that provide confidence to all drivers, all while delivering a luxurious ride quality consistent with Lincoln brand character.A new rear suspension system features a “one for one” shock absorber ratio. The resulting linear response gave the engineering team a stable base line for suspension tuning, allowing the team to deliver a better balance between responsive handling and control as well as a smooth ride. It also improves rear suspension isolation and enables the use of 20-inch wheels.Lincoln MKT delivers a new level of quiet confidence that delivers best-in-class levels of NVH control. Virtual modeling and wind tunnel tests helped engineers optimize the vehicle, influencing everything from side view mirror placement and special sound deadening in the bulkhead to extensive exhaust system isolation and the inclusion of both an acoustic windshield and dual-layer front side glass to specifically reduce A-pillar wind noise. On the 3.5 EcoBoost V-6 equipped versions, engineers directed additional effort to minimizing induction noise, while still providing a rewarding aural cadence to Lincoln MKT acceleration.
Premium innovations
Lincoln MKT delivers abundant technologies aimed at making life luxurious for both the driver and three rows of passengers. A holistic approach was used to develop these amenities, where ease of use and intuitive operation were key objectives. Nowhere is this focus more apparent than with Active Park Assist.Lincoln MKT with EcoBoost features advanced Electronic Power Assisted Steering (EPAS), which enables the optional Active Park Assist. This innovative Lincoln-exclusive technology employs an ultrasonic-based sensing system, as opposed to video camera-reliant competitive offerings, making hands-free parallel parking a breeze.Active Park Assist works at the touch of a button, requiring less driver programming, reducing the risk of selecting an inappropriately sized parking space, detecting edges of adjacent objects to calculate optimized trajectory and “steering” the Lincoln MKT while coaching the driver through conventional throttle and braking inputs. In addition to completing a parking maneuver quickly, Active Park Assist also works in uphill parking situations unlike competitive systems on the market.Additional Lincoln MKT customer convenience features include:Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) allows the driver to set and maintain vehicle speed, while radar monitors traffic ahead of the Lincoln MKT. This optional system automatically adjusts speed and slows the vehicle to maintain the set distance behind traffic ahead.Intelligent Access with Push Button Start allows the driver to enter the Lincoln MKT and start the engine without using the key. Entry is made easier as drivers simply carry the special fob as they approach the vehicle and start the engine by pushing a button.SecuriCode™ Keyless Entry Keypad allows access to Lincoln MKT by unlocking the driver’s door by entering a pre-set five-digit code in the flush-mounted, backlit keypad integrated into the B-pillar.Adaptive Headlamps with Standard High-Intensity Discharge (HID) Lamps enhance nighttime visibility. Sensors monitor Lincoln MKT speed and steering wheel input to engage headlamp movement to increase the driver’s field of vision.Auto High Beams coupled with Adaptive Headlamps enhance nighttime visibility by switching to high intensity when no other vehicles are in range.Rain-Sensing Wipers use an optical sensing system to gauge precipitation and automatically activate and adjust the wipers.EasyFuel™ Capless Fuel-Filler System self seals when refueling is complete.MyKey™ allows parent or other concerned owners to restrict certain Lincoln MKT features when in the hands of a MyKey driver. MyKey encourages safety belt usage, provides earlier low fuel warnings, engages applicable driver aid systems and sounds speed chimes at preset levels while limiting audio system volume and top vehicle speed.Blind Spot Information System (BLIS™) comes into play when a turn signal is activated. A radar sensor on the outboard rear quarter panel monitors the traditional blind spot area and can notify the driver with a warning indicator light in the corresponding side view mirror if the sensors in this optional system detect a vehicle in the blind spot.Cross Traffic Alert uses BLIS sensors to help detect traffic when backing out of a parking space. When the vehicle is in reverse and it senses traffic, mirror warning lights illuminate and audible signals sound.Spotter Mirrors add secondary convex spotter mirror panels in the top outer corner of the side view mirrors, specifically oriented to reflect objects often lost in a driver’s blind spot.Reverse Camera System, a standard Lincoln MKT feature, uses the centerstack-mounted touch/ navigation screen for projection and activates upon reverse gear engagement.Lincoln SYNC™ is standard on Lincoln MKT. This award-winning voice activated communications and entertainment system developed by Ford and Microsoft fully integrates Bluetooth®-enabled mobile phones and digital media players into the vehicle.SYNC incorporates 911 Assist, which can notify a local 911 emergency operator in the event of an air bag deployment incident.
